Dearest Group:

As moderator for the next meeting where we'll be discussing The Dispossessed, I wanted to forward a link to a site that you might enjoy perusing.

This site was created as part of a recent exhibit at the New York Public Library in collaboration with the Bibliotheque nationale de france. The title of the exhibit is "Utopia: The Search for the Ideal Society in the Western World". I was fortunate enough to have seen this exhibit in NY in December and was really impressed by the breadth and diversity of material presented. And I more recently discovered that The Dispossessed is cited in the extensive bibliography for the exhibit!

That having been said -- here's the link . . .

All the best to each of you. See you on the 28th.

I found a very interesting "Study Guide for Ursula LeGuin: The Dispossessed (1974)" . It's at

Not to overstep my role or anything, but IMHO our moderators could do worse than to check it out. I'll probably print and bring a copy with me tonight.

Another interesting web page reprints a review of the novel from Workers Solidarity No. 58 :

I've just finished re-reading The Dispossessed and am brimming with many questions and discussion topics. I'm sad that Julie & I will have to leave by 9:30PM (to bring Dad home from the Indy airport) but with luck I'd like to at least touch on celestial mechanics, special relativity, microeconomics, macroeconomics, literary criticism, Taoism, the power of writing, sexual orientation, the web .... What, you want a chance to talk, too ? ;-).

See ya!
